Budget Portable Induction Cooktops

If you are looking for an energy efficient, quick and precise way of preparing delicious food, induction cookers are an affordable option. The most popular ones are portable and are equipped with one or two induction burners. These cooktops vary in temperature and power levels, safety features, design, and cooking surface dimensions.

We selected three quality cooktops to review that have a lower price point than some of the others on the market. If you aren't sure you want to switch to an induction cooktop, then a less expensive model might be a good option. Also, if you just want to use a cooker for an extra burner or warmer once in awhile, then one of these three will work just fine.

Prices accurate as of:

How Induction Cooking Works

Conventional electric or gas stoves distribute heat differently than induction cooktops.  Food is heated on standard ovens when an open flame or a hot surface comes into contact with the bottom of the cooking vessel. Whereas with induction technology, the cooking vessel generates the heat.

This type of cooktop contains a ceramic plate with a coil underneath it. When the unit is turned on, an electric current passes through the coil producing a magnetic field.  Electric currents are then generated in the vessel's metal when an induction ready pot or pan is placed on the cooktop.  The surface is then heated, with the heat being transferred to the pot or pan containing the food or liquid.

What Cookware to Use

Pots and pans made of cast iron, cast enameled iron, steel and cookware that have a base made of a magnetic grade of stainless steel are all induction ready.

A lot of people first check the pots and pans they have on hand to see if they are induction friendly. This is done by placing a magnet on the bottom of the cookware and if the magnet sticks securely, then it is suitable for use on an induction cooker. The cookware must also be flat so that it will be in contact with the surface of the cooktop.

If you decide to buy new cookware, you can either purchase a set or just the pots and pans you use on a regular basis. Induction ready cookware can also be used on gas and electric cooktops.

The heat retention is far superior to other forms of cookware, while the premier composition ensures even cooking at all times. Whether you are scrambling eggs, frying steak or cooking up a quick casserole for two, Lodge has supplied cookware which truly brings out the flavor of your food.

This reliable cast iron pan comes pre-seasoned, although most frequent users find it better to re-season it periodically. There is no way to “over season” a pan; however, the fact that it comes ready to use is a big bonus.

As with all cast iron, take care to not use any strong detergents when cleaning it, as this could damage the surface. Fortunately, you don’t need more than a bit of soapy water and a wipe to get this great pan clean. It is also fairly non-stick, taking just a small amount of oil to prevent your food from getting stuck.

  • Chip & Crack Resistant Enamel Coating
  • Induction Ready
  • 2 Pound Weight

  • 13 Attractive, Vivid Colors Available
  • Handles Work Great with Oven Mitts
  • Outstanding Heat Retention
  • Keeps Cold Food Cool Over Prolonged Periods

Cons

  • Abrasive Texture Requires Careful Handling on Glass
  • Very Heavy

Summary

The Le Creuset Signature Enameled Cast-Iron 5-1/2-Quart Round French (Dutch) Oven, Flame is one of the most beautiful of its type available to shoppers. The broad array of colors, cast iron construction, excellent low and high temperature cooking, and superior performance on any cooking surface make it one of the best Dutch ovens available. The high-quality enameled interior makes this Dutch oven virtually non-stick, while cleaning could not be easier.

This is no standard Dutch oven. Le Creuset as added many superior design features such as a sand-colored enamel interior which makes it easy to gauge the progress of your meal and prevent burning. The handles are also 45% larger than normal which helps remedy the high-temperature problem of cast-iron.

Given their large size, they can absorb more heat which makes them cooler to the touch. They are also big enough to give you a comfortable grip when using oven gloves. The large knob found on the lid is comprised of a highly heat resistant composite, and it also doubles as a balancing addition to this well-designed pot.

Taking Care of Your Cookware

Given proper care, each of these items can easily last you a lifetime. To clean any burned food which may be stubbornly stuck on your stainless steel pan, simply boil up a little baking soda and water, while warm soapy water using a mild dishwashing detergent should be used for regular cleaning. Be sure to wipe your stainless steel with vinegar regularly to remove calcium deposits and keep it shiny.

A soft bamboo or nylon brush is invaluable when cleaning a cast-iron skillet. It is best to wash your skillet by hand and be sure to become accustomed to cooking at a lower temperature to prevent food from sticking.

It is generally best to dry directly after washing, and then follow up by rubbing your skillet with a very light layer of cooking oil or spray. Cast iron cookware is best hung in a dry place.

Cleaning a Dutch oven needs to preferably be done immediately after use in order to minimize staining of the enamel. Boil up plain water with no detergent briskly within your enameled Dutch oven and then remove from the heat and scrape off the residue.

Thereafter you can wash it with hot water and a little dishwashing liquid. If any staining does develop, a solution of one-part bleach to three parts water does a great job and is the recommended manner of stain removal supplied by Le Creuset.

pros
cons
  • 15 power levels
  • 15 temperature levels
  • Angled front panel
  • Reasonably priced
  • Heats quickly
  • No child lock
  • Noisy fan

Features

Design

The well-thought-out design of this unit allows you to clean the cooking surface without touching the controls or the LED display panel.  The power cord is 5 ft long (per Secura customer service).

The electrical requirements are 120V/60Hz.

Power

There are 15 power levels with a range of 200-1800 Watts. Power is provided in cycles, with a cooling fan switching on to cool things down quicker when temperatures rise for an extended period of time.

Temperature

This unit has 15 temperature levels that range from 140º to 460ºF. They help ensure steady cooking all the way from a slow simmer to moderately high heat cooking.

The temperature settings available in Fahrenheit are: 140°, 160°, 180°, 200°, 220°, 240°, 260°, 280°, 300°, 320°, 340°, 370°, 400°, 430°, 460°.

Timer

The timer is adjustable in one-minute increments and is simple to configure. It can be set to a maximum of 170 minutes and functions in either the temperature or power mode. The unit will beep and then shut off when the time has expired. If the timer is not used, the device will shut down after 120 minutes (the fan will continue to run for a minute or so).

Safety

Although the unit does not have a child lock, it has other safety features. To prevent any mishaps, a built-in low and high voltage warning system sets off an audible alert to prevent further damage or risk of fire. The unit will shutdown after one minute.

The auto-pan detection system will shut the unit off automatically after one minute if it does not detect cookware. If the cooking surface exceeds 460°C the unit will automatically shut down.

This unit is FCC Part 18 certified and ETL approved.

Cookware

The proper cookware must be used, or the device will not work. To determine if the cookware is induction ready, turn the cooking vessel upside down, place a magnet on the bottom, move the pot or pan around a little and if it strongly sticks then you can use it on the induction cooktop.  Stainless steel (as long as the base of the pan is a magnetic grade of stainless steel) and cast iron pans are known to give a great spread of heat.

The smallest diameter of pot supported is 5”, while the cooktop will cover a 11” pan at the most. The cooking surface dimensions are approximately 11”x11”.

Summary

The Secura 9100MC is a quick-heating, portable induction cooktop. With the right cookware, you will have water rapidly boiling in under three minutes. Heat is spread evenly across the cooking surface.

The design features a stainless steel frame, beveled control panel and a durable, glass-like ceramic surface. Not only does it cook well, but it will also look great on your counter.

In terms of portability, it functions without any issues on a portable, limited power supply as is found in an RV or boat.

Verdict

The Secura 9100MC 1800W Portable Induction Cooktop is a reasonably price induction cooktop with plenty of power and temperature settings and safety features. It can also be used as a warming plate to keep food warm during a home-cooked meal or catering event.

Alternative

The new Max Burton #6450 Digital LCD 1800 Watt Induction Cooktop is a step up from the Secura 9100MC. It is more visually pleasing, has a child lock and the cooktop surface goes to the edge of the unit affording a tad bit more room for the pot or pan. It also has boil and simmer one-touch settings unlike the Secura 9100MC.

Max Burton induction cooktops are known to be among the highest quality available. Their features include: child lock, one-touch boiling and simmering, safety functions, and a large heating area.  The Max Burton 6400 Digital Choice Induction Cooktop is rated at 1800-watts and benefits from a wide range of temperature and power settings, superior craftsmanship and a sleek portable design.

Max Burton recently added a new induction cooktop to its lineup - the Max Burton #6450 Digital LCD 1800 Watt Induction Cooktop Counter Top Burner. This model is an upgrade from the 6400 model and is reviewed here.

Max Burton 6400 Digital Choice Induction Cooktop 1800 Watts LCD Control

Features

  • 15 Temperature levels
  • Temperature range: 100º-450ºF in 25º increments
  • 10 Power levels
  • Power range: 500-1800 Watts
  • One touch simmer and boil
  • Child lock
  • Timer - 3 hr
  • Advantages

The Max Burton 6400 may take up a small amount of space, but it supports a large size of cookware. It is easy to clean and operate. This is not the only highlight; here are the primary benefits.

    • One-Touch Simmer & Boil Functionality
    • Accommodating of 11” Cookware
    • Safety Features
    • Heats Quickly and Holds Temperature
    • ETL Approved
    • FCC Part 18 Compliant

    Disadvantages

Other than a temperature setting gap which is slightly too large for some (25 degree increments), and an annoyingly loud warning tone which alerts you when cookware has been lifted from the surface, this product from Max Burton is free from any issues which severely detract from its value.

    Summary

The Max Burton 6400 Induction Cooktop is a compact and lightweight unit with a large, clear LCD display and an easy-to-clean surface. Both the timer and the digital controls are easy to operate, and placed in such a way that they will not be spilled on while cooking.

The digital timer can be set to a maximum of 180-minutes (in one-minute increments). When the time expires, the unit shuts down.

Pots and pans that are induction ready must be used on the unit will shut-off. It will not operate unless there is a cooking vessel on the cooktop.

The Max Burton 6400 offers a wide range of temperature and power settings. It reaches any given temperature within a very short time frame and does a great job of holding that temperature. While the first power setting is great for slow cooking, this unit also excels at high temperatures.  Another attribute is that it drops to a lower heat setting almost instantly, mainly thanks to the fan which runs from the moment the unit it switched on. It gets a full pot or kettle or water boiling in under sixty-seconds, making it a very fast cooktop indeed.

Max Burton is a brand of Aervoe Industries Inc. whose headquarters are in Gardnerville, NV and are said to have friendly, attentive customer service. This reviewer found this to be true when a call was placed to the technical support department. The query was whether the machine shuts off after three hours if the timer is not being used.  A product manager stated it did and was designed that way for safety reasons. He was extremely nice and willing to answer any other questions. It is unusual nowadays to be able to talk to someone on the phone in the technical support department in the United States since more and more companies are outsourcing these positions to other countries or only provide email support, if that. Answers to most of questions about the unit can be found in the detailed and well-organized manual available online.

    Alternative

One alternative induction cooktop is the new Max Burton #6450 Digital LCD 1800 Watt Induction Cooktop Counter Top Burner, an upgraded version of the 6400 model. There are a few improvements that make the 6450 model worthy of consideration. First, the cooktop surface goes to the edge of the cooktop.  Second, the cooktop is shaped in such a way, that it is more aesthetically pleasing than nearly every other portable induction cooker. Third, improved temperature control. Fourth, the computer software and hardware has been upgraded. The 6450 cooktop is a versatile, well-designed product that is very easy to learn how to use.  It is easily stored and compact enough to be used almost anywhere.

Magma 10-pc Stainless Steel Cookware Set

Magma Products developed this very nice set of heavy duty marine grade stainless steel cookware with two criteria in mind.

First, they wanted a set that was specifically engineered to give optimal performance when used with single or double induction cookers.

Second, they wanted to design pots and pans that would provide RV and boat owners and campers a high-quality, mobile, and durable set with great performance.

This Magma Products 10 Piece Gourmet Nesting Stainless Steel Cookware Set, Induction Cooktops can also be used on electric, gas and ceramic cooktops. It is also beneficial for those who choose to live in smaller spaces. These Magma pots and pan are also practical for folks who are short on storage space or prefer nesting cookware.

Here we’ll be taking a comprehensive look at this Magma induction ready stainless steel cookware set.

Magma Products, A10-360L-IND, 10 Piece Gourmet Nesting Stainless Steel Cookware Set, Induction Cooktops

    What's Included

    • 1 1/2 qt saucepan
    • 2 saucepan
    • 3 saucepan
    • 1 interchangeable lid for the 3 saucepans
    • 5 qt stockpot
    • 9 1/2 inch saute/fry pan
    • 1 interchangeable lid for stockpot and saute/fry pan
    • 2 removable handles
    • 1 storage cord

    Advantages

The marine grade stainless steel composition alone makes this set well worth considering. Each pot gives outstanding performance on any cooking surface and exhibits intelligent, balanced engineering.

    • Encapsulated triple clad bottom
    • Thick Bottom Grants Great Heat Retention
    • Even Heat Distribution
    • Sidewalls are 18/10 stainless steel
    • Portable
    • Designed for Induction & Works on Any Cooktop
    • Convenient Storage - Uses Less Than ½ Cubic Foot of Space
    • Versatile Array of Sizes
    • Handles Lock into Place Securely
    • Oven safe (detach handles)
    • No Rivets or Fasteners

    Disadvantages

The two lids are interchangeable but at some stage you might find yourself wishing you had more. However, the tight seal and durability more than make up for this. Other drawbacks of this include:

    • Sidewalls are not triple clad
    • Handles tend to get quite hot
    • A little heavy

    Features

The stacking structure of this 10-piece collection of gourmet cookware is highly portable, extremely functional, and attractively designed. Once they are nestled into each other, the 10 pieces take up less than a 1/2 cu. ft. of space.

    Construction

The triple clad bottom is composed of interior and exterior layers of stainless steel with a aluminum in between. This type of design lends itself to even heat distribution especially with the aluminum core being completely encapsulated.

The stainless steel is 18/10 marine grade and carries a mirror polish granting an immediate visual appeal.

    Design

Every aspect of these nesting pots has been designed for portable and durability. The handles are removable and are of sturdy construction. A convenient bungee storage cord is supplied, making it every easy to pack them away securely on an RV or boat.

Two stainless steel lids are included in this set. One fits the 5-qt stock pot and the sauté pan while the other is interchangeable with the rest of the set. Despite having slight heat retention issues, the lids give a secure fit and add to the attractive design. They lock into place and will not budge, which is a great safety feature. You will also find that the detachable handles are durable and comfortable to hold.

Even though the nesting design of this Magma Stainless Steel Cookware Set has been highlighted, the functionality is sometimes underestimated. It packs away into a very small area, making it the perfect pot set for those who are limited by space. Even the handles can be packed away into a pot and stored neatly.

Boat and RV owners will struggle to find a cookware set which is as sturdy and compact and one that can be used with their portable induction cookers as this set.

    Verdict

Even though these gourmet nesting pots have been specifically designed for RV and boat use, they make for a beautiful addition to any kitchen especially those that are space challenged. They work on induction cooktops as well as conventional stovetops.

If you are an outdoor enthusiast, recreational vehicle owner, the new purchaser of an induction cooktop, or one who has limited storage options, then this set is worthy of your consideration. Few cookware sets in this price range match the durability, performance or the portability.

    Alternative

If you would like a smaller set (and thus less heavy), then the Magma Products 7 Piece Induction Cook-Top Gourmet Nesting Stainless Steel Cookware Set is a viable option.

    What's Included

    • 8" fry pan
    • 10" fry pan
    • 3 qt sauté pan with lid and handle helper
    • 1.6 qt saucepan with lid
    • 3 qt saucepan with lid
    • 6 1/2 qt sauce pot with lid

    • Tight Fitting Seal on Lids
    • Even Heat Distribution
    • Heats up Quickly
    • Require Little Heat to Cook
    • Lightweight Design
    • Oven safe to 550º
    • Freezer safe

    Disadvantages

Some consumers have commented that the food sticks to the cookware. However, it is important to note the pans heat up quickly thus requiring little heat to cook.

It would have been helpful to include a lid with the 10-inch fry pan.

    Features

    Construction

The tri-ply composition  (one layer of aluminum sandwiched between two layers of stainless steel) of the Duxtop Whole-Clad Tri-Ply Stainless Steel Induction 10-Pc Cookware Set set extends through the base and sides of each pot and pan. The inner layer is 18/10 stainless steel and the out is 18/0, making it induction friendly. Many of the less expensive sets only have tri-ply composition on the base.

This whole-clad tri-ply stainless steel construction eliminates almost all the hot spots so that the heat is distributed evenly from the bottom and up the sides of the cooking vessel.

    Design

The interior has a satin finish while the exterior is polished. A nice added feature is the drip-free rim so that sauces, liquids, and soups can be easily poured into your bowl or storage container.

The lids are stainless steel and fit tightly. These pots and pans are also freezer and dishwasher safe and easily cleaned.

Another great feature is the cool-grip handles which are riveted to the pan. They are comfortable and stay cool to the touch even after a long duration of cooking.

Non-stick utensils and/or wooden utensils must be used.

    Temperature Capability

These stainless steel pots and pans are capable of handling extreme temperatures, as well as retaining heat over a prolonged period.

Thanks to the high-quality stainless steel, each item can sustain temperatures of up to 550ºF, making them perfect for use in an oven.

This set is versatile in that foods can be stored in it and placed in the freezer.

    Why Buy a Smaller Set?

Buying a smaller set comes with the advantage of having the necessary pieces to cook with, yet being able to expand the collection later if needed.

Secura supplies a comprehensive range of cookware separately from this 10-piece set, allowing you to keep the same style throughout your kitchen. Each item is backed by a limited lifetime warranty from manufacturer defects.

    Verdict

Overall, this Duxtop Whole-Clad Stainless Steel Induction Set is a sturdy, reliable and affordable option for anyone who wants a set of pots and pans that will last. This cookware set can be used on conventional stoves or on your induction stove.

The superior bonding technology used in the construction of the pots and pan in this Duxtop 10-piece set provides better cookware performance and a far longer lifespan.

Duxtop also offers a whole-clad stainless steel 14-piece set.  The extra pieces are: lid for 10" fry pan, a steamer insert that fits 3-Qt saucepan & 8 qt stockpot and two 6.6” trivets. The 14-piece set has a 8 quart stockpot & lid instead of 6 1/2 qt sauce pot.

    Alternative

The Cuisinart MCP-12N Multiclad Pro Stainless Steel 12-Piece Cookware Set is another option. It has a steamer insert and lid whereas this Duxtop 10 piece set does not.  The three layers of stainless steel and aluminum core extend through the bottom and sidewalls on both cookware sets. We reviewed this induction ready Cuisinart set.

    Duxtop 9600LS Induction Cooktop

Duxtop LCD 1800-Watt Portable Induction Cooktop Countertop Burner 9600LS

Here we’ll be guiding you through what makes the Duxtop LCD 1800-Watt Portable Induction Cooktop 9600LS one of the easiest to handle single plate induction cookers around. From its pros and cons, to its features and a comparison against other leading products, we’ve got all the information that you need to make an informed decision.

    Features

    • 20 Temperature settings 100-460ºF
    • 20 Power levels - 100-1800 Watts
    • Child lock
    • Fast boil and keep warm one-touch buttons
    • 120V/15 amps
    • Timer
    • Power cord - 5 ft
    pros
    cons
    • Slanted, Durable Touch Panel
    • Boiling & Warming Buttons for One-Touch Operation
    • Stable Low Temperature Cooking
    • High Temperature Cooking
    • Large Easy-to-Read LCD Display
    • Slightly Inaccurate Temperature Readings
    • Fan noise

The Duxtop LCD Portable Induction Cooktop is convenient and offers a flexible low and high temperature cooking with a surface that heats up in no time. It is light and small enough to be used almost anywhere, making it the perfect cooker for entertaining outside, or as an extra burner or replacement for a conventional electric or gas stove.

    Design

The LCD is large enough to clearly see the temperature and power settings as well as the timer display. The slanted control panel and the cooking surface itself are both covered with a high-quality coating which resists grease and grime extremely well making cleaning up a breeze.

Duxtop LCD 1800-Watt Portable Induction Cooktop Countertop Burner 9600LS

    Temperature

The power and temperature controls are independent of one another and either can be used to control the temperature.

The 20 temperature settings have a range of 100º-460ºF.

The temperature settings in Fahrenheit are: increments of 20º in temperature range of 100º-360º, then 375º, 390º, 405º, 420º, 440º, and 460º.

Thanks to the direct transfer of heat from plate to pot or pan, there are no fumes emitted, while still having precise temperature control.

This device heats up fast and if a pan is remove for a second to flip or stir, it resumes at the setting when set back on the surface. It is an extremely energy efficient unit which reaches boiling point far quicker than gas.

Most induction cooktops have problems maintaining a low temperature; however, this Duxtop model suffers from no such problems. It works great across all of its temperature and power settings, with the manual providing a handy reference.

    Power

The 20 power levels have a range of 100-1800W. From 100-900W the increments are in 80W increments. The remaining power levels, from 900-1800, are in 100W increments.

This unit has a cooling down period. Within just one minute of being at full heat, the cooktop cools down completely, being cool enough to touch.

    Safety

Duxtop has added other great touches to the 1800-Watt Portable Induction Burner . They include a safety button which when held down for three seconds automatically activates a child lock. This locks out all of the other buttons except the ON/OFF button.

Another feature is the automatic pan detection system. The unit shuts down if no cookware has been detected for 60 seconds or if cookware that is not induction compatible is placed on the surface.

There is also both a low and high voltage warning system that triggers an alert tone and shuts down after one minute. This induction burner also ceases operation if the cooking surface temperature exceeds 460ºF.

Duxtop LCD 1800-Watt Portable Induction Cooktop Countertop Burner 9600LS

    Cookware

As with all induction cookers, cookware that is induction ready must be used. This can be easily determined by placing a magnet on the bottom of the pots or pan and if it adheres well then the cookware will work. Use of pans with a base greater than 5 inches is recommended on this cooktop.

You may find that you have the pots and pans that you need.  If not, then you can ask yourself whether you should buy a cookware set or just a frying pan and a saucepan.

    Customer Service

Secura (the manufacturer of both Secura and Duxtop brands) is known to have customer service that responds to queries promptly. This reviewer found this to be true.  A query was submitted via email asking if the unit shut off after two hours even if the timer was set for more than two hours.  The prompt response was yes, it does stop operating after two hours. It was noted that this is a safety feature. The unit is backed by a one-year limited warranty.

    Comparison

    Noise level

Purchasers of induction cooktops frequently comment on the noises the unit emits. The fan on this unit is far quieter than similarly priced brands. Although the cooker emits a high pitched sound, there is a wide range of opinions as to just how annoying the sound is.

    Design

The design of the control panel and the temperature setting increments are different than some of Duxtop’s competitors.  The slanted control panel makes cleaning effortless. It is unlikely that any food that is cooked would splash over onto the LCD display or on the buttons on the unit. The readout on the LCD and the brightness is  far better than most other single-plate induction cooktops. The temperature setting increments (15 and 20 degrees) are less than some of Duxtop’s competitors (e.g. Max Burton 6450 - 25 degrees) which allows for greater temperature control.

In addition, the two quick-use buttons (fast boil and keep warm), make this the perfect unit for those who want to fuss as little as possible while in the kitchen.

A digital count-down timer is also integrated, stepping at 1-minute increments to a maximum of 10 hours.

Note: the unit will shut down after 2 hours regardless of the timer setting.

    Alternative

A portable induction cooktop similar to the Duxtop 9600LS is the Max Burton #6450 Digital LCD 1800 Watt Induction Cooktop. This is an newer version of the Max Burton 6400 with upgraded computer hardware and software and a modified unit design intended to improve temperature control.

This is a short list of the main similarities and differences between the two cooktops.

    • Both models have an angled control panel.
    • The cooktop surface goes all the way to the edge of the cooktop on the Max Burton 6450 while this is not the case with the Duxtop 9600LS.
    • The edges of the 6450 model are rounded and the unit as a whole is the more aesthetically pleasing of the two cooktops.
    • The Duxtop 9600LS has more temperature and power settings than the Max Burton 6450.

We compiled a comprehensive review of the new Max Burton 6450 induction cooktop.

The Cuisinart MCP-12N Multiclad Pro Stainless Steel 12-Piece Cookware Set has triple-ply construction allowing for great heat retention and distribution. Here we’ll be guiding you through the highlights of this quality cookware set from a solid manufacturer.

Cuisinart MCP-12N Multiclad Pro Stainless Steel 12-Piece Cookware Set

    What's Included

  • 8” frying pans (no lids)
  • 10” frying pans (no lids)
  • 1 ½ quart saucepan with lid
  • 3-quart saucepan with lid
  • 3 ½ quart sauté pan with lid
  • 8-quart stock pot with lid
  • Steamer insert with lid
  • Advantages

This twelve-piece induction ready cookware set from Cuisinart has a lot of positive attributes.

    • Triple ply construction throughout base and sidewalls
    • Steamer Insert and Lid
    • Even Heat Distribution with No Hot Spots
    • Encapsulated Aluminum Core
    • Lids fit tightly
    • Tapered rims for easy pouring
    • Cool Grip Handles
    • Stainless Steel rivets
    • Suited to Any Stovetop
    • Any Utensils Can Be Used
    • Oven safe to 500ºF

    Disadvantages

One drawback to this set is that Cuisinart does not state the stainless steel composition.  Also, there are no "medium" size pots - there is a 3 1/2-Quart Sauté Pan and the next size is an 8 quart stockpot.

    Summary

    Construction

The pots and pans of this Cuisinart Stainless Steel Cookware Set have triple-ply multi-clad construction. These include two stainless steel layers with an aluminum core that extend throughout the bottom and sidewalls of the cooking vessels. The aluminum core gives excellent heat retention and heat distribution. The interior is polished stainless steel and the exterior is a brushed finish.

Cuisinart’s patented Heat Surround™ Technology ensures steady, even distribution throughout the entire cooking vessel. It guarantees that heat is spread evenly across the bottom and sides of every pot and pan.

    Lids

Stainless steel lids are supplied with this 12-piece set. For some, this is preferable to glass as there is no chance of breakage should they be dropped, and they can also withstand much higher temperatures. This is especially true when taking into consideration that this cookware set can be used in the oven at temperatures of up to 500°F. Care needs to be taken not to overfill the cookware in this set as each lid slides into place, taking up a slight amount of space at the rim of the pot.

    Handles

One of the best features of this induction-ready cookware set are the long, cool grip handles made from solid stainless steel. They stay cool to the touch throughout the highest temperatures and the longest cooking periods. They are also positioned to never pose an obstruction while cooking, while also being long enough to avoid the direct heat of gas or electric cooktops.

    Steamer Insert

You will soon find yourself wondering what you ever did without the stainless steel steamer insert. The insert only fits the 3-Qt saucepan. It can also be used to drain pasta for example. These pots get hot quick, allowing you to quickly steam up vegetables or fish, with hardly any of the vitamins and minerals being destroyed.

    Easy to Clean

This cookware is also very easy to clean thanks to the highly polished interior. It takes little cleaning to keep them looking good, while stains and scuffs are easily removed using a light porous cleaner. The pots and pans are so attractive that they are stunning enough to be served out of directly.

Each item of cookware suits its purpose with the cooking surface being highly resistant to corrosion, water spots and other damage.

Calphalon Tri-Ply Stainless Steel 13-pc Cookware Set

If you are looking for a stainless steel cookware set which is durable enough to be used by anyone, with any utensils, then look no further than this excellent offering from Calphalon. The Calphalon Tri-Ply Stainless Steel 13-Piece Cookware Set has a brushed stainless steel interior that allows you to use any type of utensil without scratching the cooking surface.  This set can be used on induction cooktops as well as on ceramic, gas, halogen, and electric stove tops.

The pieces in this set have striking glass lids and handles which are cool to the touch. Calphalon utilized superior bonding technology to grant a completely encapsulated core that provides great heat retention and distribution.

    What's Included

    • 8" omelette pan
    • 10" omelette pan
    • 12" omelette pan
    • 1 1/2 qt saucepan with lid
    • 2 1/2 qt saucepan with lid
    • 3 qt chef's pan with lid
    • 3 qt  sauté pan with lid
    • 6 qt stockpot with lid
    pros
    cons
    • Even Heat Distribution
    • Great Heat Retention
    • All Pots and Pans Needed to Sear, Simmer and Boil
    • Handles are Firmly Welded
    • Handles Get Hot After Prolonged Simmering or Boiling
    • Expensive

    Features

The range of pots and pans included in this Calphalon Tri-Ply Stainless Steel Cookware Set provides everything needed to cook up a storm. From the large pot perfect for soups or stews, to the stock pots and sauté pan, Calphalon has you covered.

    Construction

Two layers of durable stainless steel that have between 8% and 10% nickel content, encapsulates the aluminum core. The exterior is brushed stainless steel.

    Lids

While some prefer steel covers, the tempered glass lids add an extra touch of elegance. They fit perfectly and seal in heat and moisture. You will find that even when leaving your lid ajar, your pots and pans still maintain a stable heat.

    Handles

It’s clear that this is a set designed to last, with even the handles being triple welded for enhanced durability. Even though the brushed stainless steel handles stay relatively cool to the touch through most bouts of cooking, the rims of these pots and pans are known to get quite hot. This is the only area which has any variation in heat and it has no effect on your meal.

    Cleaning

Even though the set is rated as dishwasher safe, it is generally safer to wash your pots and pans by hand.

    Alternatives

If the Calphalon set isn't quite what you are looking for, another stainless steel option is the Cuisinart MCP-12N Multiclad Pro Stainless Steel 12-Piece Cookware Set. It too has a tri-ply construction with great heat retention and distribution. Additionally, unlike the Calphalon 13-pc set, a steamer insert and lid is included.

If you are low on storage space, the Magma 10pc Stainless Steel Nesting Set might be a viable option. We discussed this set in a review.
