Rice cookers have come a long way since 1937 when they first appeared in the Japanese Imperial Army. The only thing that hasn’t changed is their ability to cook rice perfectly. Also known as rice steamers, these small appliances work to steam your rice without you expending much effort. Another great feature of rice cookers is that you can set them up and leave - you don't have to monitor the cooking process.

Cuckoo manufactures a line of quality rice cookers.  This review focuses on the Cuckoo CRP-HZ0683F Induction Heating Pressure Rice Cooker.

Cuckoo Electric Induction Heating Pressure Rice Cooker CRP-HZ0683F (Black)

Since 1978, Cuckoo Electronics has been the leader in the rice cooker sales and as of October, 2016 have sold over 25 million units. Surprisingly, 18 million of those units have sold in Korea alone.  Cuckoo uses innovative technology to upgrade the existing features and add new ones to their rice cookers.  There are over 10 induction heating rice cookers available for sale by Cuckoo, but there is only one that is an upgrade (the CRP-HY) from the cooker we review here, the Cuckoo CRP-HZ0683F model.

The appearance of the Cuckoo IH rice cooker has changed quite a bit since the initial model was released. The features have changed as well, and now this 6 cup rice cooker has some impressive capabilities.

Who is This Product For?

Anyone can benefit from using this Cuckoo induction heating rice cooker. Whether you want to cook rice, vegetables, soups, bread, tofu, fish, or more, this appliance can work for you. Since this rice cooker is on the pricey side,  we’d recommend understanding its features before investing in one that is as advanced as this Cuckoo. Having said that, the unit is user-friendly and the manual has detailed instructions. However, you may determine that you don't need these features and opt for one that only has functions you will use. We presented two other options here.

Overview of Features

This induction heating pressure rice cooker has some of the most advanced features that you don’t see on other models manufactured by other brands. Called the Black Pebble, the Cuckoo CRP HZ brings luxury to rice cooking by including features such as the interior coating of XWALL Blackshine. This material prevents scratching and corrosion from salt, spices, and harsh chemicals. The exterior is coated with DiaShield, which is harder than stainless steel.  It also has a stainless steel detachable cover and an auto steaming cleaning function.

Cuckoo also implemented a specialized smart algorithm to assist you with matching up your tastes with the texture of your rice. Additionally, it uses a a Digital Signal Processor (DSP) chip. This type of chip can process data in real time and is a beneficial feature because it controls the amount of pressure and heat.

This 6-cup (uncooked) rice cooker is equipped with voice recognition software that comes in three different languages (English, Chinese, and Korean).

In addition to premium amenities, Cuckoo shows that it cares about safety by including over 20 safety features in their HZ0683F model.

How to Use

There are so many advanced features on Cuckoo's Black Pebble, that it's no surprise it's an expensive machine. Cuckoo leaves nothing unsaid in their owner’s manual, and they provide you all of the information that you need to use your new rice cooker, including 11 how-to guides.

To start off your cooking, choose the menu button and make your selection. The Cuckoo has pre-programmed cooking options for many types of rice; glutinous rice, mega heat glutinous rice, mixed rice, mega heat mixed rice, sushi rice, GABA rice, mega heat GABA rice, Nu rung Ji, black bean, nutritious porridge, nutritious rice, ferment bread (ferment), ferment bread (baking), and auto clean are among them. Once that’s finished, you turn the lid handle to lock and press the cook button.

Alternatives

It’s challenging to find rice cookers on the market that have as many features as the Cuckoo products do, but depending on your needs, you might not require something so advanced.

The Tiger JKT-S10U-K IH Rice Cooker is a suitable option, at a less expensive price. It has fantastic consumer reviews and has upgraded features in comparison to some of the other Tiger models. It also comes in multiple cup sizes. So, if you don’t need your rice cooker to talk to you, this could be an option for you.

If you don't need the pressure cooker feature, then the 3 cup Zojirushi NP-GBC05-XT Induction Heating System Rice Cooker and Warmer is a really great option to consider.

Conclusion

The Cuckoo Black Pebble series rice cooker is a terrific, user-friendly induction heating pressure rice cooker. All of the incredible features that come with this cooker are more than worth the price tag. The astonishing quality of the design and its resilience make it a strong contender against any other rice cooker that’s available on the market.

Keep in mind that if this Cuckoo induction heating pressure rice cooker isn’t for you, there are plenty of other Cuckoo options available that you can purchase. They’ve made sure to provide one for everyone’s needs.
