Features of the Anolon Smart Stack Frying Pan Set

This hard anodized aluminum frying pan is coated with Infinity Slide™, a nonstick coating system that is “sapphire reinforced.” Anolon claims cookware with this system is designed to last up to 16 times longer than traditional nonstick cookware.

One reason sapphire is used is because of its hardness. According to the Gemological Institute of America Inc., the Corundum family, which consists of ruby and sapphire, is the second hardest mineral after diamond. In terms of hardness, sapphire is rated as a 9 on the Mohs Scale, with diamond being a 10.

The sapphire or diamond crystals enhance the durability and toughness of the cooking surface. 

Anolon customer service confirmed this coating is PTFE based. However, it does not have PFOA, lead, or cadmium. The exterior has a nonstick surface also which makes cleanup easy.

These pans can be used on all stovetops including induction since the base cap is magnetized stainless steel. The cap is about .6 mm thick.

The two aluminum rivets that attach the handle to the pan are flush with the cooking surface and covered with nonstick coating. Meyer Manufacturing Company refers to this as Unity Surface® Flush Rivets. This type of construction prevents food from being trapped around the rivets and also makes for a smooth stirring process.

The handles are stainless steel with a silicone covering and are comfortable to hold and easy to maneuver. Some reviewers have commented that the handles are a bit short.  

Use and Care Guide 

The Anolon Smart Stack frying pans can be used on the cooktop and in the oven up to 400°F.

This skillet is dishwasher safe. However, these pans are easily cleaned by hand washing with a non-abrasive sponge such as Scotch-Brite Non-Scratch sponges and warm water.

As with all nonstick cookware, never run cold water in the cooking vessel while it's hot, as the extreme temperature change will cause the coating to deteriorate.  

Anolon states metal utensils can be used but recommend plastic utensils be used.  However, if you decide to use metal utensils be aware that scratches, stains, discoloration, or damage from overheating are not covered by Anolon’s warranty.  Once a nonstick frying pan is scratched, it is time to repurpose it or give it to a metal scrap yard.

One way to preserve the nonstick coating is to use oil/butter and not cooking sprays since the ingredients buildup on the surface of the pan. This causes the release system of the coating to stop performing as it should, and in time, food will begin to stick to the pan.

Another suggestion to extend the longevity of the coating is to use low to medium heat as a high heat may damage the nonstick coating. Damage due to the use of cooking sprays and overheating voids the warranty.


Anolon has a customer-friendly warranty process. If the consumer believes the item to be defective, they can submit the warranty request and photographs of the product to

There is no need to provide proof of purchase or mail the product to Anolon. The pictures will then be evaluated, and a determination made as to whether or not the product will be replaced.

A written warranty is included with the skillet. It states it is a lifetime warranty. However, there are exclusions including but not limited to damage caused by accident, misuse, abuse, etc. As previously stated, Anolon specifically states that scratches, stains, discoloration, or damage from overheating are not covered by the warranty.

Look and Feel

You’re getting an 8-inch and a 10.25-inch frying pan here in a single set. The good news is that they both look fantastic. A polished stainless steel exterior gives it a premium look and feel, and makes for a nice change from the brushed steel look from other companies. It also contrasts nicely with the black nonstick interior.  

The handle curves nicely upwards and away from the edge of the pans. You can see that a lot of thought has been put into the design of both pans and would look great in any kitchen. As much as the polished mirror of the exterior surface might not be for everyone, it draws the eye.

How Do They Perform?

While we appreciate a good looking piece of cookware, it’s the performance during cooking that counts. Nothing matters if a pan isn’t durable and doesn’t create a good cooking experience.

HaptIQ, is a 5-ply pan constructed of two layers of stainless-steel sandwiching 3 layers of aluminum.

The Scanpan HaptIQ Stainless Steel-Aluminum 2-Pc Fry Pan Set has nonstick surfaces on both the interior and exterior.  The nonstick coating system is called STRATANIUM +. This is a 5 step application system that bonds to the pan body permanently. Scanpan states this is a commercial-grade coating that is harder than steel and free of PFOA, PFOS, lead and cadmium. STRATANIUM+ contains PTFE. 

Scapan uses haptic technology to create a textured surface. This method of applying the STRATANIUM+ coating offers the cook the ability to sear and brown foods. These foods are then easily released from the pan 

If you prefer, it is possible to cook without oil when using this pan due to the texture and coating. Scanpan claims that this new Stratanium nonstick surface is even better than their old technology. Whether you’re cooking sauces or other foods, the nonstick surface does a great job.

In terms of maintenance, the Scanpan HaptIQ Stainless Steel-Aluminum 2-Pc Fry Pan Set is a joy as well. There is so little food residue left on the interior surface after cooking that you can easily wipe down with a damp cloth and cook some more if you need to.  

You also don’t need to worry about metal utensils scratching the nonstick surface. The layered surface is really tough and we doubt that it will be damaged easily during use.

To top off quite an exceptional set of frying pans, they are safe in the oven up to 500 degrees Fahrenheit. What this means is that you can move from the stovetop to the oven without any concern. The metal construction is durable. 

Should You Get Them?

The question is: should you get this two-piece set from Scanpan? The quality of the frying pans can’t be denied. They’re tough and durable, look great, and feature a nonstick surface that’s free of PFOA material.

It’s important to note that investing in this set is not going to be the cheapest option. Then again, you have to ask yourself what kind of cookware you need and how long do you want it to last? If you want to step up from those inexpensive pans that have hot spots and poor nonstick surfaces, this good-looking Scanpan duo is definitely worth a look.

4. Cuisinart MCP22-30HNSN Multiclad Pro Nonstick Stainless Steel 

Many serious and casual cooks have a nonstick skillet in their kitchen. The problem with nonstick surfaces is that you need to use butter or oil with a lot of cooking. First Impressions

This is one good looking skillet. The stainless steel brushed exterior is really great to look at and will look perfect in any kitchen. The interior of the pan is black and if you look closely, you’ll see a texture to it. This is Cuisinart’s Quantanium nonstick technology.

It’s not the heaviest skillet, but is sturdy. The weight is there, and there is no movement or play in the nice upturned stainless steel handle. This is due to the three rivets that attach it to the side of the pan.

Overall, you get a sense of quality from the Cuisinart MultiClad Pro nonstick skillet. While aesthetics don’t count for much if the cookware is inferior, it definitely doesn’t look or feel like an inexpensive skillet in any way, shape, or form.

What about the nonstick surface?

A skillet can look like the prettiest in the world, but if it doesn't do what it’s supposed to do, what’s the point? A nonstick skillet is supposed to be a breeze to use and make your cooking easier, so how does this Cuisinart skillet stack up in that area?

The stainless steel interior layer is covered with what Cuisinart calls the Quantanium(R) Nonstick Cooking Surface. The coating is reinforced with titanium-based particles. According to the Mohs scale, titanium is not as hard as diamond or sapphire. However, the inclusion of titanium in the coating formula, causes the coating to be harder and more durable and scratch resistant than systems without titanium.

Those bumps and little textures on the interior are supposed to be really good at transferring heat. In use, sauces and other foods are no problem. Consumers report food slides right off and clean-up is an easy task.

This Cuisinart nonstick stainless steel skillet is oven safe up to 500°F. It is also dishwasher safe. However, Cuisinart cautions that regular dishwasher cleaning will eventually scratch any utensil.

Surrounded by Heat

The other thing that a good piece of cookware should do is transfer and retain heat effectively. One of the big problems with inexpensive cookware is that there are often hot and cold spots in the pan. This creates uneven temperatures and less predictability in terms of cooking times and quality. That’s a big no-no for quality cookware.

Fortunately, this skillet from Cuisinart doesn’t suffer from those hot and cold spot issues. The pan is composed of three-ply metal construction: stainless steel interior, aluminum core, and magnetized stainless steel exterior (making it induction compatible). This material combination offer an even transfer of heat across the bottom and up the sidewalls of the pan. The exterior layer of stainless steel allows for good heat control and heat retention. 

Cuisinart claims food is evenly heated (no hotspots) because the food is surrounded by heat on all sides. They refer to this as their Heat Surround(TM) technology.  


Cuisinart offers a Lifetime Warranty (US and Canada only). However, there are the usual exclusions, including damage caused by accident, misuse, or abuse. If there are scratches, stains, or discoloration and Cuisinart decides they do not impair the "functional utility" of the cookware, they will reject the warranty claim. Final Thoughts

Overall, this is a quality skillet -  from the appearance to the nonstick Quantanium coating in the pan. Even the little details add up to a trouble-free experience. For example, the rim is nicely tapered so that pouring direct from the skillet is a breeze. Not every skillet has this detail and it’s nice to see.

So, should you buy it? If you don’t already have a good quality nonstick skillet, there’s no reason not to look at this one from Cuisinart. For the money, you’re getting a solid piece of cookware that will definitely be a step up from the less expensive stuff.
